Moreover, it can give you that refreshing flavor that you need when it is extremely hot out.

What Goes with Potato Salad?

Potato salad is a well-known side dish, so we will no longer be tackling other side dishes in this section. Instead, we will discover the best main dish pairings for this perfect side dish. Are you ready? If yes, then let’s get started!

Sticky Barbecue Pork Ribs

In what season would you mostly see potato salad in the dining table? It would most likely be the summer season. Do you wonder why? That’s because the creaminess and lightness of potato salad perfectly complement the tanginess and heaviness of barbecued meats.

And when it comes to barbecued meats, sticky pork ribs will always be a classic! If it’s too hot out, I have good news for you. The barbecue recipe I will give you does not require a grill!

To prepare this dish, place your Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, paprika, white vinegar, garlic powder, and white vinegar in a bowl and mix well. Submerge the pork ribs in the resulting mixture and let it marinate overnight. If you are in a hurry, 20 minutes will do!

Transfer the ribs to a roasting pan containing ¼ cup of water. Cover the pan with a foil and bake it for 1.5 hours at 160 degrees. Remove the foil afterward and cook for 30 more minutes at 180 degrees. Baste the ribs with your marinade every 10 minutes. Brush the ribs with the juice from the pan before serving.

This dish is best served with potato salad that has red onion, basic, bacon, lemon juice, and mayonnaise.

If you are a beef lover, then your go-to potato salad main dish would be no other than steak.

For me, the steak, itself, is fancy enough. Because of this, I do not try to make it even fancier with the addition of complicated sauces or over-the-top spices. I like to keep my steak fuss-free and straightforward. If you love your steak the same way, here is my recipe.

For my “seasoning” and “marinade”, I would just usually whisk vinegar, steak sauce of my choice, olive oil and mustard in a bowl. I brush the resulting mixture on both sides of the steak then I season it with salt and pepper afterward.

After that, I place a large skillet over high heat. Add the steak to the skillet and cook each side for 2 minutes. I, the, brush the top again with the olive oil mixture before transferring it to the oven, placing it at the top rack.

To make sure I don’t overcook my steak, I stick a thermometer in its side. Once the temperature hits 120 degrees Fahrenheit, I remove it from the oven. It usually takes just 3 to 5 minutes.

For this recipe, I have no problem whipping up a fancier version of the classic potato salad. I upgrade it by adding blue cheese and chives.

Crispy Mustard Chicken

Of course, the chicken should also have a place on this list. If you are on a diet or you want to take a break from eating red meats, then this crispy mustard chicken is a must-try.

This one’s a bit different from the usual fried chicken as it is made more flavorful with the addition of the mustard. You can prepare this by seasoning the chicken pieces with salt and pepper. After that, brush mustard over it.

After seasoning the chicken, transfer it into a skillet placed over medium-high heat. Cook one side for 10 minutes or until the skin has turned golden brown. Flip it and cook the other side for 8 minutes or more.

The mustard in the chicken will work well with a spring potato salad that contains oil, horseradish, vinegar, tarragon, scallions, and vinaigrette.

Turkey Sandwich

If you want to eat your potato salad for snacks, you should pair it with a turkey sandwich. And you will surely be excited when I say that I prepare a mean turkey sandwich. The secret is, I add chipotle sauce to make it more flavorful!

First off, I mix mayonnaise and chipotle powder together in a bowl. I spread the chipotle mixture on both slices of bread then I proceed on stacking up my turkey sandwich. My sandwich fillings usually include bacon, cheddar, sprouts, lettuce, avocado, and of course, a thin slice of roasted turkey.

For me, the perfect pairing for a turkey sandwich is a cold potato salad as it is equally refreshing as this light sandwich!

Sauteed Green Beans and Asparagus

If you are a vegetarian, you can still take advantage of potato salad by pairing it with asparagus and green beans. The truth is, this is a common pairing since there are even some people who incorporate green beans and asparagus in their potato salad recipes.

For this vegetable dish, let us go down the simplest route possible to let the vegetables shine on their own. This is one of the simplest asparagus dishes that you can ever prepare!

All that you need to do is place a large pan over medium heat. Put butter and let it melt. Add sliced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the green beans and cook for 5 minutes. Set aside the garlic and beans in a bowl.

Place the asparagus on the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Lower the heat then return the garlic and beans to the pan. Add more butter and chives then cook for 2 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste before serving.
