Last Updated on by

Whenever I think of chicken pot pie, I imagine something creamy, flavorful, tender, and crispy. When you first bite into it, you will be greeted with a buttery and flaky crust. Once you have bitten through the crust, you will be welcomed with a hot and creamy sauce and delicious chicken bits, herbs, and vegetables!

It is official—chicken pot pie one of the best comfort foods I have ever tried! That is why it does not come as a surprise that I whip up a fresh batch of chicken pot pies now and then. In fact, my kitchen would be filled with the delicious aroma of this pie almost every week.

While I do not encounter any difficulties in making this pie, I am having some problems thinking of what goes with chicken pot pie. I mean, no offense to the pie, it is delicious, but there are some times when you want something else to pair it with.

Chicken Pot Pie

Lucky for you, I have gone down this route too many times before, so I already have tried different chicken pot pie pairings—some are good, some are, well, should be forgotten. But in this article, I will share with you the favorite pairings that my family has fallen in love with so you do not have to do the trial-and-error method as I did.

What Goes with Chicken Pot Pie?

I firmly believe that no chicken pot pie meal should ever go to waste, but some side dish pairings will make you wish you have never tried them. If you want to avoid those mistakes, you should take a look at these recipe ideas that I would like to share with you.

Roasted Rosemary Baby Potatoes

When thinking of side dishes for chicken pot pie, you treat the pie as if it is a sandwich. After all, the side dish pairings for both pies and sandwiches are almost the same. With that in mind, one of the side dishes that you can never go wrong with will surely be potatoes.

Roasted Rosemary Baby Potatoes

Just like most baby potato recipes, this one is easy to make, and the best thing is, it is incredibly flavorful and profoundly satisfying.

To prepare this side dish, just simply combine bacon slices, halved baby potatoes, minced garlic, rosemary, chicken powder, feat tablespoons of butter, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Make sure that all potatoes are fully covered with the seasoning.

After that, carefully arrange the potato slices in a single layer at a baking dish. Place it in the oven and bake it at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. The potatoes should be soft on the inside yet crispy on the outside.

After baking, squash the baked potatoes a bit using a potato masher. Drizzle melted butter over the potatoes. Toss to coat and bake again for 5 more minutes.

Creamy Mashed Potato

Another classic potato dish that you should give a try is mashed potatoes. The recipe that I will share with you is different from the rest because it is creamy and not just buttery—a perfect companion for your creamy pot pie!

Creamy Mashed Potato

For this recipe, you will use an instant pot, so you do not have to waste your time, monitoring the stove from time to time.

Place the steamer wire rack in your instant pot. Add 1 cup of water to the pot, followed by the garlic cloves. After that, add in the russet potatoes (make sure to peel the potatoes first).

After adding the ingredients, cover the instant spot then turn it to “seal” mode and let it cook for 12 minutes then quickly release the instant pot and remove the lid carefully.

Once the potatoes are done cooking, transfer the potatoes in a potato ricer. Push the ricer into a bowl. Do this again and again until you have achieved your desired texture. After that, add the garlic cloves to the potato ricer and push it into a bowl again.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, place the heavy cream and butter and let it melt. Add the resulting mixture to the potatoes, followed by the salt and sour cream pepper. Mix everything and combine well. Add more salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh chives, and melted butter then serve.

Hash Brown Casserole

If you are a cheese lover, you may want to balance the creaminess of the chicken pot pie with the saltiness of a cheesy casserole like this one. I have prepared this a lot of times, and it is always a hit not just to the little ones but even the adults as well. After all, you can never go wrong with cheese and potatoes.

Hash brown may seem like a complicated dish but believe me when I say that this is one of the easiest potato recipes that I have ever tried! In fact, I can do it even in my sleep!

Line a bowl with paper towels. Grate the potatoes into it. After grating all the potatoes, squeeze the extra moisture from it by squeezing the grated potatoes using more paper towels.

Place a large skillet over medium-low heat and let it heat for 3 minutes. Place bacon grease on it and add the grated potatoes and cook it for 5 minutes. Never stir it. After that, add the potato mix and add more fat and cook for 5 more minutes.

Transfer the cooked potatoes in a medium-sized bowl and add the rest of the ingredients—salt, onion, pepper, butter, cheese, and chicken pot pie soup and mix everything well.

Place the resulting mixture in a casserole dish. You can garnish it with any seasoning that you want. I highly recommend paprika powder but do not add too much because some children don’t like it that much. Bake for 40 minutes and serve! Make sure to serve the casserole hot—that is the only way to go!

Fruits or Fruit Salad

Fruit Salad

If you do not want to fill your stomach too much, you can pair the pot pie with a refreshing dessert. You can go for fresh fruit slices, or you can take it to the next level by turning it into a fruit salad.

In Summary

Chicken pot pie is one dish that you can never resist. After all, one bite of it will already make you feel as if you are at home, and your mom is preparing something delightful in the kitchen. But what makes a chicken pot pie dish even more satisfying is the perfect side dish.
